Making Men Understand How to Dress Up - Neckties, Bow Ties & Co

Posted: Monday, April 30, 2012

By Hendrik Pohl

Sometimes mens clothes appear too intimidating especially to women. Only a number of men interest in learning little details about their clothes, they are actually the most confident shoppers. Presumably the only time they tried on something is when they bought their suit or tuxedo for their wedding.

Mens dress tops are more accurate in sizes but you should consider a few details before swiping your credit card. There are many changes in mens dress tops recently. The patterns, colors and even fabrics are far different from the style in previous years. Men may want to take a minute to notice recent fashion so that they would not appear a little bit old-fashioned.

Sizes have remained standard for a long time. If you are a medium size built it does not mean you can wear a medium size top. There are two key measurements for mens tops: the sleeve and neck width. In the shirt label, you will see two sizes indicated, the first size is for the neck and size below it is the sleeves.

In mens clothing, the waist and the shoulder measurements are accounted. Supplementary information like full-cut and fitted indicated in the label describes how loose or slim the top is made. Each designer has their own information and if you have a particular preference for your tops it would be best to try them on.

Trends on the patterns and colors are far different now. The customary starchy plain white top is no longer impressive to many people. Nowadays, clothes specially the tops are more considered to blend well with ones eye color, skin tone and skin.

If you have difficulty distinguish colors just use commonly favored ones like the grays or blues. It would make you look refreshing in a tasteful way. Patterns can be quite a struggle to match with tops, pants, jackets or neckties, a little sweat will do help.

Your manner of carrying your ensemble is also important. The conventional way is to fasten the shirt to the top, tuck it in and a necktie. It may appear very respectable but it looks too suffocating. Tuck it in then leave the top button undone; it may look relaxed yet respectable.

On casual occasions, you can still appear respectable even if dress shirt is untucked and top button is unfastened. One will look leaner and taller. If you are confuse on what to wear, it would be better to go over dressed. Take off your necktie and unfasten the top button to appear a bit casual.

There maybe details that is not important for men to know, but a little awareness on the latest fashion would not hurt.

Elizabeth Bennet's Wardrobe: Undress, Half Dress, Full Dress, Headdress! Making Sense of It All

Posted: Friday, April 27, 2012

By Linore Rose Burkard

Let us understand from the start that the term
"Undress" did not signify being unclothed. Likewise,
"Half Dress" did not mean one was literally half-
dressed. The terms are categorical, not literal.
Like Full-Dress, their name referred more to function
than a state of being. In which case you may ask,
'What does it all mean?'

It means there had to be many gowns in a genteel
Regency lady's wardrobe--regardless of the size of
her fortune. Indeed, to be active in society the
necessity of owning a large wardrobe could hardly
be avoided. In a small town such as Longbourne (where
the Bennett's lived) the categories no doubt
overlapped more than they would, say, for a
debutante in London.

Nevertheless, a number of categories of dress were necessary, and of course there would have to be variety within each category--and this, no matter
where you dwelt, for there were different uses for

the different categories, as we shall see.

Having said that, one could argue there are
only two main categories of clothing for the Regency
belle: Undress and Full Dress. In this
"model", Undress includes all of the gowns worn during
the day, and what is otherwise called Half Dress.
(Which is to say, the majority of clothing for daytime,
and even perhaps, informal evening wear.)

Day gowns include any gown worn for the morning,
walking out, shopping, carriage riding, or making
calls. Full Dress, on the other hand, was for the
evening Ball, very fancy Dinner, Opera or
appearance at Court. (The Royal Court, not a court
of law.)

The chief difference between Undress and Full was a
lower bodice for the evening, but in practice full
dress implied a whole ensemble; A short-sleeved
empire-waisted, low-necked gown, (generally of muslin
but by no means restricted to such) and including evening
gloves, a fancy headdress of some sort, a few jewels,
a fan, perhaps a reticule, and satin slippers. Other
accessories could also be worn or on hand: feathers,
boas, shawls, scarves and fans, to name the most common.
The following gowns constituted Undress.
# Morning dress

# Walking-out dress

# Carriage dress

# Promenade dress

# Afternoon dress

# Riding dress (or Habit)

# Half-dress

See the difference? In theory, you were in Undress
in the morning, Half-dress in the afternoon, and
Full Dress for evening events. (Such as, a dinner or
soiree, opera, ballet, theatre, concert, or ball).
Court Dress was also considered Full Dress, though
it had extravagant requirements that no other
occasion called for.

According to the Georgian Index, a wonderful online
resource for Regency fans, Dinner Dress and Opera
Dress fall into the category of "Half Dress."
And only "Evening, Ball and Court Dresses" passed
as Full Dress. Is your head swimming, yet? If not,
consider that the Riding Habit might not fit into
any of the above, but simply constitute a category
in its own right!

Ah, so many dresses, so little time! No wonder the
all-important Regency "season" was a roller-coaster
ride of entertainments, diversions and delights.
A lady must needs have enough events to make use of such an extensive wardrobe, and enough gowns in her
possession to attend them in "the mode." Pity the
poor chit who couldn't follow protocol or dress for
the occasion. Such was the challenge for families
with more pretension than means, who wished to
launch a Regency buck or belle into the swirl
of the fashionable elite.

The Regency. There's never been a time quite like it.
You've got to love it!

Dazzling Prom Dresses and Shoes for the Prom Girl

By Chris Robertson

The right prom shoes can give that perfect finishing touch to prom dresses of all styles. You want to look your best for the prom and dazzle your date and your friends. If you already have a great prom dress, now it's time to find dazzling prom shoes to go with it. Let's explore the different styles of prom shoes and how they fare with certain prom dresses.

Make a Fashion Statement with Your Prom Shoes

Prom shoes are not merely shoes! They're fashion accessories used to complement the color and design of prom dresses. Prom shoes are used to draw more or less attention to your feet. Prom shoes can make your feet look smaller or narrower. And as with any formal wear, they can also complement your legs and toes. So the prom shoes you choose will greatly affect your complete, head-to-toe appearance at the prom. Make your fashion statement count.

Styles of Prom Shoes

There are several styles of prom shoes so you can easily find the right prom shoes for you. Whether your feet are wide or narrow, long or short, plump or skinny, there are prom shoes that can make your feet look beautiful. The popular prom shoe styles include open toe, closed toe, short heel, flat heel, high heel, wide heel and stiletto heel. Prom shoes can come with stay-up ribbon tape in a variety of colors that wraps upward around the ankles and lower calf for a glamorous look. Dye-able prom shoes can be dyed to match the exact colors of prom dresses.

With open toe prom shoes, you can paint your toenails to match your prom gown or eveningwear.

What's Your Prom Dress Style?

For the asymmetrically hemmed dress, your legs will shine - and so will your feet. So choose glitzy high heels on strap sandals to attract all eyes to your feet and legs. With a long evening gown, wear prom shoes with a stiletto heel. This will make your legs and feet look slender while making you look taller overall.

With a flared dress that's the length of your leg calves, wear closed toe shoes with a medium heel that straps around the ankle. These also look great with a high-low dress cut. For the long, flowing eveningwear, prom shoes will receive less attention, so you might consider choosing plain, open or closed toe prom shoes that are the same color as your prom dress. You might consider dye-able prom shoes if you're unable to find the exact color you need.

With princess style prom dresses, the open toe or closed toe sandal will work great. Choose heel height according to your own height and the shape and length of your legs.

No matter what style prom dresses you like, try on several types of prom shoes to find the perfect match. The same rules apply for homecoming gowns, Quinceanera gowns, or any other type of elegant clothing. You can also go online to a prom dress or prom shoe store and browse through hundreds of prom dresses and shoes. You'll be dancing the night away in your beautiful prom dress and shoes in no time!

Tarot As Your Own Personal, Fun, Fashion Stylist

Posted: Saturday, April 21, 2012

By Louise M Green

Tarot is perhaps better known for its use as an uplifting guide, showing us events on the horizon or highlighting areas for growth and development. It can assist us in the different areas of our lives, such as career, inspiration, relationship or practicality. These are worthy subjects but there are times when we can turn to our Tarot decks, in the spirit of light heartedness and fun. Tarot can become your own unique wardrobe assistant to help you dress to impress, find your own natural style with panache and to avoid those fashion 'faux pas' which lurk unworn in your wardrobe.

Have you ever opened your closet, perhaps on a busy work morning or prior to a big night out and despite a fulsome array of clothing, despaired because "you had nothing to wear"? You rummage in amongst the coat hangers, delving into the darkest recesses of your wardrobe, trying on various skirts, dresses, blouses and finally, in a fit of desperation, you select an outfit which should do the trick. Yet, somehow, it just doesn't feel right. No time to change though and you dash out the door, not feeling as confident or as comfortable as you would wish. The funny thing is, the garments you have purchased may be of fine quality, or were expensive and fit well, but you have the nagging suspicion that your chosen outfit doesn't do you justice.

Fashion surrounds us, celebrity designers showcase their collections throughout the media, we can buy outfits in stores, shops, over the internet and well meaning family and friends give their own opinion as to what suits us, if you'll pardon the pun. So much choice is available in terms of colours, shapes, styles.

Tarot can help us define our own style and fashion flair so that when we next go out on a shopping spree, we can be sure our items chosen serve us well and become long standing favourites in our wardrobe collection.

How can a pack of cards, become our own style guru? Allow me to explain. There is a suit within the Tarot deck, entitled Court cards, made up of four groups which are: Wands, Swords, Cups, Coins. As their name suggests, we have Kings, Queen, Knights and Pages representing the attributes and characteristics of their own particular suit. Wands relate to the fire element, Swords, to the air, Cups to water and Coins to earth.

The four Queens shall assist on this occasion and we now have our personal stylists ready and waiting to begin our consultation, starting with the style that suits least or doesn't work so well.

After shuffling our cards, we select randomly, without looking, a card. Let's say we choose the Queen of Wands. Now our consultation begins with what isn't doing you proud, in terms of image. You may have a tendency to select garments which are really theatrical and showy, making you a centre of attention. Fabrics tend to the shiny and in hotter, brighter colours of reds and oranges, for our Queen of Wands is governed by the fire element. Clothing lines tend towards the flouncy, sensuous or revealing. Whilst this is an exciting, racy look, it calls for courage and audacity to carry it off.

Our vivacious, bold, fun loving Queen always ensures she dresses to take centre stage. She adores her 'bling' and doesn't hold back on her make-up. Think of Hollywood's flamboyant leading ladies to get an idea of the Queen of Wand's 'look'. You may find, if you follow this gorgeous girl's dress code, that you need a great deal of confidence to carry a theatrical 'centre stage' look and in its more extreme state one may be viewed as flighty, overly flirty or temperamental.

Now that we have looked at what may not suit you so well, let's see what will work for you, bringing self esteem and admiration. Once again, let's pick at random and for our purpose, the Queen of Swords steps forward.. This airy, gracious Queen breezes in, bring coolness and clarity. She likes her outfits tailored, crisp, un-fussy. This elegant lady loves her stiletto or kitten heels, not necessarily high, but she loves the sound they make as she crosses the floor. The Queen of Swords likes a bargain and for her, she'll seek out designer labels at a fraction for the cost, or await the high street version, for less cash.

This Queen is a sharp dressed woman, but provocative undergarments contrast her cool exterior. As for preferred colour, this airy Queen adores any colour you see in the sky. Her jewellery can be either silver or gold, but will be minimal, preferring to wear a statement piece, to invite comment and conversation. Our classy, intriguing, stimulating Queen always ensures she dresses to engage the mind which is where her power base lies. Think of Hollywood's 'ice queen' leading ladies to achieve this 'look'.

Now that we have seen what works well and indeed, not so well, we can find our own unique styles to dress our characters. It doesn't matter our body size, skin tone, or age. The Tarot Queens are delighted to become your unique and caring fashion guide and they will always be honest with you.

We have worked with two Queens, two sisters, fire and air, equally powerful, but yet so different in their outlook. However, there are still another two Queens remaining, representing Cups and Coins and they too have their own wonderful, beautiful styles.

Now, which Queen are you....

In recent times, wholesale clothing brands are really flourishing all over the world. Most of them have been able to secure massive production and earn huge profits. There are many companies which are into this venture and most of them have been triumphant in this industry.

How to start wholesale clothing business

To start a clothing business, one does not necessarily require having huge shops or enormous capital and finding customers to their products. They should rather focus on selecting the right merchandise and a perfect place. By selecting and focusing on specific locations they will be able to make things easier for them in the coming years. This will make them steady to start the business in the right path.

The location plays an important part in determining the types of costumes or the traditional attire for a particular society. The wholesale marketers may select formal clothing such as tuxedos, suits, wedding gowns, party wear, or other formal dressing. They might also focus their business towards providing garments particularly for men or women customers as well. They may also consider selling children garments or clothing for an entire family.

The most successful vendors feel that any of these marketing niches may be quite profitable, provided that they are handled properly. The clothing industry is really flourishing and it is expected to rise further as people are now more cautious of their dressing.

Unlike in the past, men and women have now become quite choosy about their garments. Men and women have become more fashion wary then before and most fashion designers are quite busy in creating something unique for them. Casual dressing in the form of jeans and T-shirts has become quite fashionable for trendy men. The garments that highlight physique of men are quite performing well. Also in the fashion arena, sweat shirts, chinos pants, Khaki dresses, are most preferred youngsters.

Dress Up Games and Your Child

Posted: Sunday, April 15, 2012

By Erin Petersson

Many children, girls especially love dress up games. These sorts of games are different than the sorts of games you might expect your child to play. The games are unique even online, but there are huge benefits to the games that you might not have thought of. Dress up games are a fun way to play online, but the benefits for your child reach far beyond that.

Dress up games are creative.

Playing the games allow your child to express creativity in ways she can not in many situations. Playing the games allows your child the opportunity to create a new fashion doll online. In the game, a doll base is selected and then your child has the opportunity to dress that doll base in a huge range of fashionable items. Selecting the clothing for the dolls is simply part of the process. The clothing and accessories available for the dolls are what have so much creativity involved.

But it is not just creating the styles that inspire creativity. How your child uses the styles help as well. When you create a doll in dress up games, you have a few options of what to do with it. You can discard it after a time and create new doll to keep the game alive. Your child can also save the design to be used with other websites and designs. The doll can be used as an avatar on a social networking site. It can also be used as part of a printed invitation, poster or just for fun in a notebook.

Perhaps the most creative aspect of using dress up games is to put the dolls you create into stories. Not only do you create the designs, you also create the story and character background for the doll. Sharing this with friends or others online who enjoy the same sorts of games, your child will be able to communicate with others and get feedback on the designs from others who understand the process and the desired result.

Playing Dress up Games With Your Child

One of the best things you can do with your child is sit down together and play the games at the compute side by side. Not only is this valuable time together, but you will also have a chance to communicate with your child on a level that you can both enjoy. Take turns designing dolls and fashions, or use the dress up games as a chance to describe things such as appropriate clothing for the school year, or a new uniform you are thinking of for the cheerleaders.

Simply spending time with your child in an activity she enjoys is worthwhile, however. Often children develop their own interests and ideas as they age and parents are not always able to keep up. Treat the games as a rare opportunity to get a glimpse inside your older child interests and abilities, especially online where you might be concerned about her activities and the time she spends on the computer.

The Importance of the Little Black Dress

Posted: Thursday, April 12, 2012

By Dorthy Weatherbush

To truly understand what makes the little black dress so special and significant to fashion, you have to know its history. It is the most well known fashion icon of all time and got its start in 1926, when it was introduced to the world by fashion designer Coco Chanel.

The illustration for the simple sheath dress without collar or cuffs was published in Vogue magazine. Vogue rightly predicted that like the Ford Model T, the dress would become standard fair that women of every social class would want to own. Coco's affordable little black colored dress instantly became a symbol of elegance and functional chic.

Throughout history, the little black dress has been worn by top celebrities and influential women. Maybe the most influential example is Audrey Hepburn in the film classic, "Breakfast At Tiffany's." Audrey wore a form fitting black strapless gown featuring a floor length design creating a cool sophisticated look that women everywhere wanted to emulate.

Marilyn Monroe is also well remember for wearing multiple variations of this kind of dress, often custom designed to best show off her hourglass figure. In the 1990s, the beloved Princess Diana wore a black pleated chiffon dress to a party while her husband announced his adultery on television and kept the iconic dress alive for a new generation to explore.

To choose a perfect little black gown for you, keep in mind timeless style is not about buttons, ribbons and excess. Remember the woman makes the clothes not the other way around! Go with a simple design and simply dress it up or down using for the occasion.

The all dresses in your closet should suit your body type. Thinner less curvy women might try a plunging neckline to enhance the bust line or can go with a strapless dress without worrying about being exposed. Women with curvier shapes might look for an empire waist to elongate their bodies and a length below the knees to add balance. Women without a defined waist line or lacking much shape can look to an empire waist to give them curves and make the bust appear fuller. Gap.com offers a variety of classic and trendy dress styles that go with any figure.

With a little black cocktail dress, women can play up their best feature. Show off long toned legs with a mini little black dress. A plunging back is daring and sexy for those with defined backs, expertly showing off a svelte figure. A V neck does wonders for women with fuller bust. Though lots of trendy lengths can be found the timeless classic hem hits at the knees or slightly above. The material also tells a lot about how functional a little black dress is. Though spandex and other stretch materials work well, a linen, wool, silk or cashmere black dress will work great for any social occasion, they also flatter the form.

Clothing, cut style and a few funky accessories can help you completely transform a simple black dress. For instance, a little black mini dress paired up with tights and big jewelry gives an edgier look. For a daytime look, pair a black dress with a cardigan and flats to wear to the office.

Clubwear Dress For A Night Out On The Town

By Tina Matsunaga

Singles that frequent the clubs on the weekends do not go simply to have a drink and return home. The main purpose is to have fun socially and be noticed by friends, acquaintances, and those who might enter the inner circle. Women do not go out for a night of dancing just to sit quietly in the background and go home unnoticed. Instead, ladies want to accentuate the positive and select a memorable clubwear dress for a night out on the town.

Today, the selection of clubwear dresses has grown to include every woman's taste, regardless of her preferred style. While most of the garments are well above the knee, many are modest in fashion. However, the modesty is accentuated by the material, the craftsmanship of the design, and the overall elegance. Many choices are simply elegant.

Conversely, many clubwear dresses have the party girl in mind. The cut, the style, the material, and the print suggest the wearer is out for a good time. Plus, she is certainly not the shy sort. Instead, this woman is likely the life of every party she attends.

Then, there are the group of clubwear dresses that are somewhere in the middle of the fashion spectrum-clingy, elegant and modestly revealing. Also in a variety of colors and prints, the choice is yours. Unfortunately, you will have a problem. How do you decide when there are so many great outfits for a memorable night on the town?

Many of the clubwear fashions have an expensive look, although they cost no more than a simple outfit purchased at a department store. In fact, you may have enough money to get 2 or 3 different dresses. Now you will have a different outfit to coincide with your ever-changing moods.

Maybe you are not in the mood to visit the nightclub scene. No problem! Many clubwear dresses are also an elegant choice for a special event or going to a nice restaurant. In fact, they are also great for a candlelight dinner at home.

So, whether you want to get in on the party and go to the nightclub, have elegant attire for a nice restaurant or play, or simply dress for a nice candlelight dinner at home for two, you will want to check out the growing selection of clubwear fashions. From slinky to simply alluringly feminine, surely there is a style made for you.

The Key to Distinctive Dress

Posted: Friday, April 6, 2012

By Robert Scott

The key to distinctive dress is to know yourself--your good points, as well as your shortcomings. Every little part of your personality has a direct bearing on what you may wear to the best advantage.

Your figure controls the lines of your garments; your complexion, and even your temperament, the color; and your occupation or station in life, the fabric. Yet, associated with all these is the dominant question of fashion.

It is not wise for any woman to let thoughts of fashion sway her entirely; yet, since clothes are a very important factor and they, in turn, are regulated by style tendencies, it would be unwise to overlook style conditions.

Style has the power of adding much to the appearance of a garment if just a little thought is given to it. Thus, to illustrate my point, suppose we consider a dress or a suit that is, say, only a year old. When new, it was considered very smart; yet in only one short year it seems to have lost the charm it had for us--it is no longer satisfactory.

Why this change?

The fabric may be almost as good as when the garment was new, the color is practically the same, and it fits just as well as ever. What else then can it be if it is not the change in fashion--our conception of new lines--that makes the costume appear less attractive to us?

None of your outer garments should be regarded as a meaningless covering; rather, they should be considered as a part of you.

Garments have the power of magnifying physical imperfections--to make one look conspicuous, undignified, and even absurd; also, they have the power to emphasize good points and make one feel comfortable and always at ease. Therefore, by close and careful study, you should endeaver to find out what is most beautiful in yourself, and then set about to express this beauty as cautiously, as carefully, and as appropriately as you can.

Garments of harmonious colorings that are carefully constructed will always tend to enhance one's appearance, and an appropriate costume correctly designed will lend grace to the figure and an ease that aids in bringing out one's individuality.

Whatever your station in life may be, therefore, it is really your duty to study the lines of your face and your figure. Then you should give every detail, from the arrangement of your hair to the condition of your shoes, intelligent thought and careful attention. By heeding such advice you will be able to select styles that are practical and appropriate and yet becoming.
